TRAINING AND HORSE MANAGEMENT

Trainer

Mitch Beer

Mitch Beer was born into racing and relished having the bug for the sport from an early age.

His father, Les Beer, was a successful jockey that rode thousands of winners during a career that spanned more than 30 years, while Mitch’s sister, Ashlee, was a professional jockey and is now a successful  jockey manager for the likes of Teo Nugent and Nikita Berriman.

Mitch started his professional life with thoroughbreds at the age of 16, when he worked for the powerful Lloyd Williams operation at Flemington before stepping up to become the stable foreman for astute trainer Russell Cameron, also at Flemington.

The experience gained with the Flemington outfits served Mitch well when he moved to Mornington to become the Assistant Trainer to another talented young horseman, Jason Warren.

Mitch worked with Warren as he developed his business, becoming one of the premier stables on the Mornington Peninsula.  A host of smart horses went through the stable during Mitch's time there and none better than the Group 1 winner Bel Sprinter.

Mitch played a significant role in Bel Sprinter’s maiden 2013 Group 1 win in the Galaxy in Sydney before he travelled with the exciting galloper to Singapore, where the speedster ran second to the world class performed Lucky Nine in the KrisFlyer International Sprint.

Mitch gained his trainers’ licence in November 2015 when he partnered with revered horseman Max Hinton, the pair enjoyed a great amount of success together before Mitch moved out on his own.

In 2018 Mitch made the decision to move his operation from Mornington to Albury where he saw a gap in the market and the enormous potential there was being placed on the border.  The stable can raid north to Sydney and south to Melbourne and every track in between in virtually a day, giving your horse every opportunity to find its best fit for course, distance and class.

In 2023 after much thought and consultation Mitch Beer Racing expanded into Kembla Grange, taking the stable from a country yard to a provincial stable.  The move has proved a triumph with the stables strike rate more than doubling from around 10% to 22% in the first 6 months.  Being just an hour out of Sydney it now brings the horses within striking distance of city class races while also still being eligible for provincial only races and the lucrative Midway Series.

Business and Bloodstock Manager

Stephanie Grentell

Stephanie's family has been involved in the racing industry for over 100 years, so you could say it's in her blood.

After finishing school Stephanie travelled extensively working on stud farms in Victoria and New South Wales before finding herself at the Lloyd Williams stable at Flemington.  It was here that Steph and Mitch struck up what has turned out to be a lifelong friendship.

It was during her time at Flemington that she was afforded the opportunity to attend yearling sales with the Williams team to select their next generation of stars and it cemented her desire to work in bloodstock.

When the opportunity came up to work on reception at the Inglis Melbourne office she jumped at the chance and quickly rose in the ranks to be appointed to the Bloodstock Team just 6 months later.

It was during her decade at Inglis where Stephanie honed her skill for selecting thoroughbreds for all facets of the industry, a skill that puts her in a perfect position to help select and manage the stock that comes through the Mitch Beer Racing yard.

During her time at Inglis she also became the first woman in the world to auction a thoroughbred, an achievement she holds very close to her heart.

She has also attended sales in the UK and South Africa where she helped select horses for some of the biggest yards in South Africa tasting Group 1 success with horses like The Conglomerate.

It was only a matter of time before Mitch and Steph cemented their working lives together and in this role it allows them both to play to their strengths.  It will mean they're able to get the best out of each and every horse while also making sure each and every owner has an enjoyable experience on and off the track.

Data and Form Analyst

Michael Gannon

Mick is a form analyst with over 10 years experience in the field.

The backbone of Mick’s form work is data analytics. Using sectional times and ratings, Mick has found his edge in the ever evolving thoroughbred racing industry.

He understands the significance in reviewing a horses performance and believes that post race data is as big a piece of the puzzle to race day success as any.

He is an owner, punter and is a Form Analyst for SEN Track. He's also a PGA professional, but these days is more accustomed to a race course than a golf course!

TRA (the data analytics company Mick founded) provides many services including post race reports, sales reports, pre race reports and form queries.

Mick's role within Mitch Beer Racing is to produce post race reports that provide valuable non-bias feedback.  This feedback allows Mitch and his team to make decisions on future plans for his horses with a complement of information available.

He also works closely with Mitch on race planning and tactics, even talking to him on race day if a track isn't playing the way it was anticipated or if there's an upgrade or downgrade in track conditions. This ensures our horses are being placed in the best possible races and giving them the greatest chance of winning.
